DAY 1:

Energy Efficiency Right Sizing (Industrial applications) Workshop

This session, led by a panel of industry experts, will explore how to optimise efficiency, decentralisation, technology selection and resilience, and apply those principles to right-sizing plant and integrating hybrid solutions into decarbonisation projects to:

• Reduce or defer capital expenditure
• Reduce operating cost
• Increase resilience whilst containing excessive budget
• Leverage existing demand response programmes and set-up access to future programmes
• Improve hedging of energy costs

Practical Electrification (of buildings): What Goes Wrong and How to Fix It Workshop

Most electrification projects promise strong carbon and energy outcomes – but not all deliver.

This interactive workshop unpacks why, drawing on real-world building conversions. Explore common pitfalls, from temperature mismatches to power and demand constraints, and gain practical tools to challenge assumptions, de-risk decisions, and keep 2.15pm Decarbonising Shipping: Powering Change from projects on track from the outset.

Ground Source Heating: Commercial Applications Workshop

Aotearoa New Zealand is blessed with an incredible natural resource beneath our feet – warm groundwater stretching from the Far North to Invercargill, with temperatures ranging from 15 °C to 180 °C. This renewable energy source, known as Geoheat, remains underutilised by many businesses and communities. This interactive workshop will provide:

• An overview of the Geoheat resource and its applications
• Practical business tools to help you assess the feasibility of switching to Geoheat
• Real-world examples showcasing successful Geoheat projects across Aotearoa

Deep Conversations on the Role of Local Government in Energy Workshop

Transitioning Commercial Buildings Away from Gas Workshop

Natural gas is increasingly expensive and some commercial gas contracts are not being renewed. It’s been the mainstay of hot water and heating systems in NZ commercial buildings because of convenience and cost. This presentation addresses what you need to know when considering replacing gas. Understand practical alternatives for commercial buildings using direct electric, heat
