George Baird

George Baird

George is Emeritus Professor of Building Science at the School of Architecture, Victoria University of Wellington. He is awarded the first Life Membership of the Energy Management Association of New Zealand (EMANZ) in 2013. Dr Baird has authored innumerable technical papers over the last half century. Major books include: Energy Performance of Buildings; Building Evaluation Techniques; Architectural Expression of Environmental Control Systems; and most recently Sustainable Buildings in Practice, a worldwide survey of sustainable buildings.

Ivan Fraser, CEP Hall of fame member

Ivan Fraser

Ivan is an Auckland-based Consulting Engineer specialising in Thermal and Environmental engineering fields from a mechanical engineering perspective. He maintains his interest in the work of Engineers New Zealand and of EMANZ and CEP. He has been on the board of EMANZ for many years and stood down from this involvement recently. He was the EMANZ representative in the development of the AS/NZ 3598:2014 energy auditing suite of standards which are the guidelines for the industry and the basis for the ISO 50000 group of standards. Ivan continues to deliver training in this area for CEP.

Priyani de Silva-Currie, Hall of Fame member

Priyani de Silva-Currie

Priyani is a leader and advocate for Energy Management for over two decades. She advocates nationally and internationally on energy management policy and programmes and supported the development of the first NEECS for New Zealand and the establishment of the electricity authority. As Chairperson of EMANZ Priyani led an amazing team which created solutions in energy management and created programmes which will benefit our economy well into the future, speaking for industry, government and our communities on energy policy and direction. Priyani also writes business case on energy efficiency measures and projects that support our communities and governments and was also the Energy Manager for the Nelson City Council.

Denis Agate - CEP Life Member

Denis Agate

Since joining The University of Auckland in 1980, Denis has implemented significant energy saving measures across several campuses. In 1996 his position became formalised as Energy Manager, one of the first full-time roles of this type in NZ. Multi-million-dollar savings were achieved when total energy consumption reduced by 40% and water by 72% per EFTS, in spite of greatly extended operating hours and the proliferation of desk-top computing.
Denis’ award for Outstanding Energy Manager in 2000 recognised his contribution and passion for analysis of water and energy consumption in buildings and provided the University with a platform for a sustainable future following his retirement in 2016.

Dan Coffey, CEP Hall of Fame member

Dan Coffey

Dan, an engineering consultant, boasts 35+ years of experience in electrical engineering and energy efficiency. He worked at Telecom, managing the design and project management of electrical building services. Throughout his career, he was dedicated to improving industry standards and quality. Later, at EECA, he played a key role in collaborating with EMANZ (now CEP) to create training and accreditation programs, beginning with energy auditor accreditation. He also worked on developing the Australasian standard and setting up government funding schemes to promote energy audits in line with industry standards.

Rob Bishop, CEP Hall of Fame member

Rob Bishop

Rob has over thirty years’ experience in applying energy saving technologies. He has completed over 130 energy audits of commercial and industrial facilities in New Zealand., is an accredited energy auditor and author of five books and many other publications in energy management. Rob is a past chairman of Energy Management Association of New Zealand (Now CEP) and past president of New Zealand chapter of Australia/New Zealand Solar Energy Society.

Norman Smith, CEP Hall of Fame member

Norman Smith

Norman, a founder member of EMANZ who was recently awarded life membership, has been appointed to the Board of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA). The term is for three years. In 2010 he played a key role in our move into education/training and capacity building by initiating and delivering on a performance contract to capture start-up funding from the former Electricity Commission, and in 2017 creation of our flagship Energy and Carbon Professional. Norman says: “I see what I see by standing on the shoulders of giants (thanks Amory Lovins at RMI), while hopefully not too often treading on the toes of colleagues and fellow travellers – hat tip among others to Rob Bishop and Robert Tromop.”

Noel Mason, Hall of fame member

Noel Mason

Noel, with over four decades of experience in the electricity industry, has been the Managing Director of Mason Consulting & Services Ltd for the past 29 years. His area of expertise includes high-voltage transmission, thermal power stations, railway power systems, railway passenger cars, along with commercial and industrial building services. He specializes in energy-efficient lighting design and project management, successfully completing many significant upgrade projects. Noel also contributed to the CEP Board for over a decade, while continuing to provide electrical and lighting design, project management, energy auditing, and energy management services to a wide range of clients.

Frans Plugge, Hall of fame member

Frans Plugge

With more than 25 years of experience in energy, carbon, and sustainability, Frans established ECOsystems Limited in 1995 with a mission to ‘Save Energy and the Environment’. He sold the company in 2015. He now focuses on carbon strategies to naturally remove carbon from the atmosphere where it does so much damage and brings valuable expertise to the field. Inspired by Toyota’s scientific thinking and training with Al Gore on climate change, he is currently implementing the principles of soil regeneration to remove CO2 from the atmosphere and store the carbon in the soil where it has multiple benefits, including healthy soils, healthy plants and animals and highly nutrient dense food for healthy humans. Frans served on the CEP Board for more than 10 years.

Scott Noyes, CEP Hall of fame member

Scott Noyes

Scott has been involved in the commercial building services Industry for over 25 years, with roles in project engineering, project management, contract management, facilities management and business management. Scott joined the CEP Board in May 2011 and is a former Chair.
