About Genesis Energy

Genesis Energy is one of New Zealand’s leading electricity generators and energy retailer, supplying electricity, natural gas and LPG to more than half a million customers across the country and providing almost 20% of New Zealand’s electricity.

Genesis Energy are accelerating New Zealand’s transition to a low-carbon future through their Gen35 Strategy, undertaking a $1.1 billion investment programme in new renewable generation, to make Genesis 95% renewable by 2035 with around 8,300 GWh. In addition, they have set a target of reaching net zero as a company by 2040. To help deliver on this ambitious mission, Genesis Energy are on the lookout for the right talent to help them deliver.

About the role

As a Senior Project Manager in the Asset Delivery team, you’ll report to the Head of Asset Delivery and play a key role in delivering Genesis Energy’s pipeline of utility-scale renewable energy and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects.

You’ll work across the full project lifecycle – from early-stage delivery planning and securing investment approval through to construction, commissioning, and operational handover. You’ll also contribute to building internal project management capability and embedding best-practice systems and processes across the team.

Key responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Generation Development team, providing delivery expertise and managing handover of advanced-stage developments
  • Define structure and delivery model for projects, and establish scope, time, and cost baselines
  • Procure and manage main contracts, including design, equipment supply, construction and/or EPC contracts
  • Lead development of business cases and Financial Close (FC) and/or Final Investment Decision (FID) processes
  • Develop and implement comprehensive project management plans
  • Monitor project performance—ensuring delivery within scope, schedule, and budget, and proactively managing risks and issues
  • Plan and manage stakeholder engagement and communications, including with landowners, community, local council and Iwi
  • Ensure safety, quality, and environmental compliance during construction
  • Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary project teams including internal staff, contractors, and consultants
  • Manage operational readiness activities and handover to asset management team, completing all post-construction close-out activities
  • Mentor others and contribute to building project management maturity across the team.

Please note this a fulltime permanent role and will be based at Genesis Energy Auckland or Hamilton offices.
