| Short bio | Ko Hikurangi te maunga Being a direct descendant a Maui-tikitiki a Taranga, it is no surprise that Lloyd was always interested in fire and the energy of the sun. Embracing his Maui-tanga, or ability to innovate, has led him into a career in energy management, bioenergy and decarbonization. Lloyd has over 15 years of experience in energy consulting since graduating from the University of Otago with a degree in Energy Studies in 2006. Lloyd is a founding director of Whirika, and leads our work in energy and carbon reduction. He is recognised as a leading expert in wood biomass energy, and is helping central government (EECA) to understand the role biomass energy plays in decarbonising the industrial process heat sector. He worked extensively with forest owners and wood processors to assess bioenergy options for their residues in Southland and Otago. Lloyd also works with clients to implement decarbonisation projects, improve energy efficiency and process heat fuel-switching. Lloyd shares his te reo and tikanga experience with the Whirika team. He is an accredited Energy Master Auditor with the Carbon and Energy Professionals (CEP). |
