Dobbie Engineers is a specialist industrial engineering consultancy founded in 1991, with offices in Auckland and Rotorua. The team of around 30 professional engineers, graduate engineers, and engineering designers works exclusively in heavy industry — dairy processing, meat processing, refrigeration, energy, forestry, geothermal, and building services.

Dobbie’s energy and carbon credentials run deep. Through a partnership with EECA, the firm delivers the lower carbon meat and dairy programme, identifying energy efficiency opportunities and developing business cases with access to financial grants. Dobbie is a member of the Bioenergy Association of New Zealand. Recent decarbonisation work includes electrode boiler integration (13MW to 30MW), coal-to-biomass boiler conversions, high-temperature heat pump installations, and energy recovery systems. The firm also designs and commissions ammonia and CO2 refrigeration systems, from needs assessment through to plant optimisation.

Dobbie has delivered eight greenfield milk powder plants, over thirteen major brownfield expansions, and provides ongoing engineering services to more than 35 dairy and meat processing plants. The firm holds ISO 9001:2015 certification, is Toitū Carbon Zero certified, and has WorkSafe-approved Pressure Equipment Design Verifiers in-house. Dobbie is an ACE New Zealand member and has received ACENZ Gold and Silver awards for innovative engineering design.
