Course overview
Systems thinking is a way to understand, analyse and solve complex problems with many, interrelated variables. Rather than look at linear relationships, it considers interconnections, circular loops and patterns to deliver optimum, low risk outcomes.
This course is designed to introduce the concept of Systems Thinking, build an understanding of its application and effectiveness and develop skills in addressing problems from a big picture perspective.
By the end of the course, students should:
- understand what is meant by a system and be able to define system boundaries
- understand what systems thinking is and when and how to use it
- be able to put systems thinking concepts into practical use
- be able to view organisations, people and societies as systems and predict their emergent behaviour
- apply systems thinking tools and techniques to their current business and organisational problems
- improve systems by analysing and then intervening through policies and effective decision-making.
Who should attend?
There are no formal prerequisites for the course as it builds knowledge from first principles.
The course is ideal for professionals wanting to develop their analytical, planning and organisational skills, lower risk and avoid unintended consequences from decisions. It is applicable to professionals at all stages in their careers.
