NEW self-directed module: Energy Markets and Procurement

CEP1013 Energy Markets and Procurement

Energy Markets and Procurement

Self-directed online training module

Understanding how energy markets operate is essential for anyone involved in energy management, procurement, sustainability, or organisational decision-making. Energy markets are complex and fast-moving, influenced by regulatory frameworks, supply and demand dynamics, price volatility and the growing role of carbon pricing. This self-directed online module, Energy Markets and Procurement, is designed to build practical knowledge and confidence in navigating these environments.

About the module

This comprehensive online training module provides an in-depth introduction to both electricity and gas markets, with a focus on how these markets are structured and how pricing is formed. Learners will explore the key drivers that influence energy prices and gain a clear understanding of how energy purchasing works in practice.

The module examines energy spot pricing and wholesale spot markets, explaining how prices are set and why they fluctuate. It also introduces the concept of hedging energy supply contracts, helping learners understand how organisations manage price risk and secure supply in volatile market conditions.

In addition, the module highlights areas where demand management can be effectively applied, supporting more efficient energy use and cost control. A dedicated section explores carbon pricing and the Emissions Trading Scheme, equipping learners with the knowledge needed to understand and apply these mechanisms within broader energy and sustainability strategies.
