Job Description
What you’ll be doing;
As a summer intern with Meridian Energy, you’ll get the opportunity to work on some of New Zealand’s most groundbreaking wind, solar and battery developments across the country, as well as being active in all aspects of the company. The programme will push you to develop real-life business and technical skills.
We only take a small number of interns each year, and we only want the best! In return we’ll make sure you get some great hands-on experience. You’ll be trusted with owning significant projects and will be supported by a friendly team of experts along the way, who will help develop your knowledge, skills, and professional profile.
This position can be based in Christchurch, Wellington or Auckland, but will provide the opportunity to travel and experience some of our amazing assets.
What you’ll get?
Exposure to leading Environmental and Sustainability practices and processes, especially in relation to development through the detailed design and construction phases. This includes office-based planning works as well as on-site construction experience.
Environmental matters will be consent compliance based in relation to two active wind farm developments, one active solar development and one active battery development. Although will also actively cover general environmental management systems in relation to construction. Including all relevant subjects such as; ecology, biodiversity, sediment & erosion control, archaeological, cultural, air quality, noise, hazardous materials and water quality.
Sustainability matters will focus on emissions, materials, processes, compliance to international accreditations, stakeholders and waste management. Meridian recently achieved #1 status in APAC for the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) and we are now seeking to make the global list, which includes the top 100 performers across the world.
This programme may also open the door to limited opportunities within our Graduate Programme, though placement is not guaranteed.

If you’re studying Environmental or Sustainability Engineering (or Process Engineering, Materials Engineering, Environmental Management Systems, Energy Science, Sustainable Energy, Sustainable Construction, Environmental Architecture or Environmental Science), and are currently in your 3rd year, then our summer internship is the programme for you!
