Description
This exam is one of the two assessment components for certification as an Energy Auditor. The other is an experience assessment that is administered separately. Candidates are required to pass both elements for Certification to be awarded.
In addition, candidates are required to participate in CEP’s Certification Scheme and accept CEP’s Code of Ethics and Code of Professional Conduct and Disciplinary procedures.

Exam components
Format: Online, open-book exam (use of Excel or equivalent allowed)
Duration: 100 minutes (1 hour 40 minutes)
Structure: 57 questions totaling 100 marks made up of:
- 29 Multiple Choice (1 mark each)
- 19 Multiple Choice (2 marks each)
- 6 Multiple Choice (3 marks each)
- 3 Multiple Choice (5 marks each)
Pass mark: 75%
Key points to help you to prepare for success
- You can only access the exam once, so ensure you have enough time to complete it in one sitting.
- Take the exam in a quiet space with a stable internet connection, free from distractions like mobile phones, other people or pets.
- It is your responsibility to maintain a reliable connection. Interrupted exams will require payment of another fee to resit, unless the interruption is due to an issue with the exam platform.
- Once started, the exam will stay open for the allotted time unless you submit early.
- You can review and change your answers before final submission.
- You are not required to answer every question, however unanswered questions score zero.
- There are no penalties for incorrect answers.
- All questions are marked as wholly correct or incorrect, with no partial credit. For example, if a question requires selecting three correct answers and only two are chosen, the answer will be marked incorrect.
- If you finish early, use the remaining time to review your answers before submitting.
- The exam is automatically marked. Your results will be shown straight away.
