Website Opportune Consulting
Opportune Consulting | Contract (short-term, with extension possible) | $60/hour | 10–15 hours/week | Dunedin preferred (NZ-wide considered)
About Opportune
Opportune is a New Zealand carbon accounting and sustainability consultancy. We help organisations measure emissions, meet reporting requirements, and take practical steps to decarbonise.
We work with some of New Zealand’s largest organisations, and have a passion for helping organisations understand their commitments on climate impacts and reducing emissions.
We are a small team of technical professionals (we are carbon accountants and carbon auditors), looking for a team-focused person in this role.
The role
We’re looking for an experienced business development professional to drive new growth. This role is weighted to business development —you’ll be hands-on with outreach, discovery, and closing, working closely with the Managing Director.
What you’ll do
Now:
- Source and qualify leads across targeted sectors; manage a healthy pipeline.
- Direct outreach: confident cold calling plus warm lead follow-ups from referrals, events, and inbound.
- Discovery & scoping: run conversations to understand client needs and shape fit-for-purpose proposals.
- Handover: transition lead to next stage internally
Grow into the role:
- Sales meetings & demos: prepare, present and progress opportunities with decision-makers (CFOs, CEOs, Sustainability leads).
- Proposals & pricing: coordinate inputs, draft proposals, and negotiate to close.
- Forecasting & reporting: maintain a clear view of pipeline, next actions, and weekly outcomes in our CRM.
- Account handover: transition closed work smoothly to delivery.
You’ll bring
- Proven, senior-level BD experience in B2B services (ideally professional services/consulting).
- Cold calling confidence and a consultative selling approach.
- A track record of hitting growth targets and shortening sales cycles.
- Strong written and verbal communication; excellent meeting discipline and follow-through.
- Ability to juggle multiple tasks and exceptional organising skills
- CRM proficiency (Monday.com, HubSpot, Pipedrive, or similar).
- Knowledge of sustainability/carbon is a nice-to-have—commercial acumen and sales craft are must-haves.
Important: We’re seeking someone experienced. If you’re early-career or don’t have demonstrated experience, this role isn’t the right fit.
Contract & pay
- Short-term contract (2 months), 10–15 hours/week, with the possibility of extension.
- $60 per hour (contractor; +GST if applicable).
- Flexible hours; work can be done remotely within NZ.
Location
- Dunedin preferred, but we’ll consider strong candidates anywhere in New Zealand.
Why join Opportune?
- Purpose-driven work helping Kiwi organisations reduce emissions.
- Direct line to the Managing Director; fast decisions, low bureaucracy.
- Autonomy, clear targets, and meaningful outcomes.
